Got the worst FA package of all my schools from Carnegie Mellon. What a disappointment. Tons of loans and a gap, plus biggest work-study. (This is in addition what I need to earn in the summer to contribute my portion to EFC...)

Parents will file an appeal, and we are wondering if anyone has appealed CMU financial aid in the last few years, and what the results were. I will be heartbroken if I can't attend there.

I had a huge gap (at least 12k I think) last year + lots of loans. Appealed & got 9k extra, but I was afraid of the same thing happening again the next year so I chose CWRU. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

That sounds like a pretty good result. Did you send in FA offers from several schools? Were they a lot higher?

You think if they increase it on appeal for freshman year they would revert back to previous level in subsequent years? That obviously would be pretty disastrous for the student. Why would they do that?

Anyway, why do you say "best decision..."?

Thanks!

Well five years ago when we toured CMU, the TOUR GUIDE told us that CMU is like Walmart...they look at other finaid offers so you should appeal. DS didn't apply there, so I don't know if that's really true...but hey...why not try. Send them copies of the other offers you received. If it's your top choice, tell them so, and see what happens.
