Now, I'm ridiculously happy that I got into my top choice, and I do plan on matriculating, as long as I can afford it. However, I got wait listed at my second choice (aka my other top choice) college, and I was wondering if I was actually allowed to appeal that decision?

A friend of mine was waitlisted at GWU and he plans on appealing his decision and I was wondering if I can do that for Franklin & Marshall College, and what steps one takes to go about appealing a wait list decision, and what actually happens if you DO appeal.

Do you have a better basis for appealing than “I wanted to go there”? (Or, in your case, “I wanted to go to F&M almost as much as I want to GW”?)

I doubt an appeal is going to be successful unless there was some important element of your dossier that was missing from or misrepresented in your application. Even if that were so, these colleges have pretty much filled their entering classes if their yield predictions pan out for the coming year. There just isn’t more room at the inn, so to speak, unless a greater number of accepted applicants than expected decide to go elsewhere.

On the other hand, you could try lobbying the Ad Comm to take you from the wait list instead of somebody else–if they go to the wait list .

Haha, I believe I do have a good case. I’m going to speak with my GC today at school and I’ll decide then, otherwise I’ll probably stay on the wait list. We shall see…

I hope it all turns out well for you. Actually, GW and F&M are both good universities. Could it really turn out badly?
