Hey, a friend of mine was rejected from Irvine because "no freshmen were admitted to the business school becasue there were too many transfer students this year". She was never alerted of this before-hand, she was just flat-out rejected, so she is appealing on the grounds of she had no way of knowing she'd be denied instantly, didn't get to change a major, etc. Any advice?

She didn't get admitted into her alternate major?

Apparently it also involved business? I'm not 100% sure what it was. My friend of the rejected friend says that "So basically once they close one business major, they lock down the whole business school"

I don't know where your friend is getting her information from. According to the UCI press release, "The degree program will admit 150 students per academic year, with eight to ten percent of the overall admitted class coming in as transfer students and current students who wish to change their major."

University of California, Irvine | The Paul Merage School of Business

I don't quite know either. I'm just trying to find ways to get my friend in at Irvine, and I don't have the whole story, apparently.

Your friend is wrong. They didn't admit any transfers into the program this year. They admitted 350 incoming freshmen out of 4000 applicants who applied for the major. They will not accept applications into the major for transfers or current UCI students until next fall. This is directly from my management professor who was telling us how competitive the major will be to get into.

There is an admission counselor assigned to your friend's file/application. She and her parent should call and seek clarification.

May be the lesson learnt here is that the Alternate major should always be "Undelcared/Undecided".

Yeah. I wish she had done that. She's probably just going to go to Santa Cruz, and transfer in, if possible. Thanks though.
