UCI is having a new business major right? I head it's only accepting 150 people. Do you guys think a lot of people will apply for it? Would transfer students and undecided students be able to apply as well? I'll be applying as a freshmen so, should I go in undecided then and try later? THanks.

I think the more important question is will it be good/reputable? I am also applying as freshman and don't know if the gamble is worth it yet..

Anyone else have any insight as to how well the new major will perform?

I think you'd need to see a graduating class before you can assess it either way. How they compete and their overall competence in comparison to more established business school graduates. As to OP, usually you don't get admitted to the business major off the bat anyways. For example, at Berkeley, you're admitted to pre-business before maintaining a GPA to be eligible to go into Haas. While I don't think it'll be THAT competitive, I think a safe bet is undeclared.

UCI has a very reputable MBA program. Sometimes, It is ranked ahead of UCLA Anderson B-School MBA. I do believe The new undergraduate business program will be pretty good and at least as good as USC Marshall B-school very soon.
Considering the low tuition, It should be doing pretty well against USC Marshall B-Shool.

The LA and OC business community is demanding and supporting this new program. Very soon, It will bring in a lot company recruiting activities in UCI campus for all majors not just for B-Scool.

The Economics Professor who designs the microeconomic/game theory section of the Economics Department said he talked to the Paul Merage Business School and found that the curriculum for the Business Administration Undergraduate Major is taught with a curriculum and fashion very similar to the way Cal State Fullerton's business school does. So why go to UC Irvine for a Cal State education?

lol. well, I'd rather got to UCI. thanks pepper for that response. so...does anyone else know? Should I go in as undeclared? My GPA is not too good...

sorry and when I am applying for the major would I be applying for one of the 150 spots..or just like..the university in general?

I haven't seen the application this year, but if it really is only 150 spots, chances are you'll be applying to the university in general. A good indication is if the major choice has a "pre-" in front of it, which usually means you aren't going into the actual major, but will be required to fulfill prerequisites.

okay thanks. Also, I've also found the Business Information Management major. Is it that much different from Business and Management? Is it also accepting only 150 students and is it new? It does not specify. Specifically I plan on accounting...so would it be better to try for BA w/ specialization in accounting or BS w/ minor in accounting?

so anyone know about the B.S. major?
