A Vandy parent from my town told me that in the most recent admissions cycle Vanderbilt did not consider applicants from the Eastern seabord with an ACT of under 34 composite. Does anyone have any more information about that?

Sounds ridiculous to me. That cannot possibly be true.

Vanderbilt denies any cutoff test score for admission. There is a rumor that Vanderbilt would like to increase the percentage of students from the Northeast so that may help you. On the other hand students coming from states loaded with excellent students with high test scores probably do have more competition.

not true…have your S or D put some soul in their essays and ditto for all applications…what are their family values, what will they bring to academic zeal in their pursuits. Vandy is a tough admit but NE students are well represented and happy there

Harry Bald’s essay book is short and sweet and the gold standard. In this tough admit college, essays need to stand out. Do the practice exercises in that book…is my advice over the summer and think think start over and revise. My sons threw out essays and came up with new ones as senior year is a growth experience and an intense time for all of these young people

My son was admitted to the class of 2017 ED1 with a 30 ACT score and we are from NJ

Vandy is taking more and more students from the northeast every year. They wanted and are GLAD to finally have more applicants from there. As of Fall 2012, New York had the second most number of enrolled students (behind Tennessee).

Don’t know about you but where we are in the NE, a lot of kids are starting to apply to Vanderbilt. It seems its gotten much much harder to get into. My son visited his cousin and loved it.

kwalker203^you are correct, Vanderbilt has gotten much harder to get into even over the last few years; the overall stats for the admitted freshman have risen greatly in the past decade but I don’t think that it is any harder for students from the northeast to be admitted than it is for students from the southwest, for example.
It is always good to hear that Vanderbilt’s profile has risen and more kids are applying from the the northeast.

Yes, it’s nice to hear that Vanderbilt is becoming more popular in the NE. Vanderbilt has a lot to offer today’s students.
Yes, it’s a hot university right now and has become VERY selective. The SAT/ACT scores at Vanderbilt are now higher than those at Dartmouth, Brown, Cornell, U.Penn and Duke.
