Applicants! Let's get to know each other.

Hey everyone! In light of the long wait for decisions, I figured we should all get to know each other. I previously used my sister's old account on CC and this is my new one so that is why this is my first post.

I'm a guy from northern New Jersey who goes to a public school, I'm a big NY Rangers fan and I'm excited about hearing from Michigan. I applied to a lot of schools (12) and I've only heard from one (not counting 2 deferrals).

Anybody else from New Jersey or the tri-state area?

Hey Jersey guy, my brother is a New Jerse Devils fan, does that count as being from Jersey? (Obviously not and given his fandom and yours I doubt you two would get along, haha)

I am from the metro Detroit area, I go to a private school in a suburb with a graduating class of around 175. I have already been accepted at Michigan State and Fordham, and would likely attend MSU were I to be rejected at my other six schools: Yale, Duke, Stanford, Boston College, Columbia, and of course Michigan itself.

I am also a huge NHL fan- though I like the Lightning and hometown Red Wings.

I was deferred EA at BC and MICH and have been checking Wolverine Access every day since December. I have a feeling I’m in for the long haul in terms of waiting, though; my UW GPA is quite low (3.55) in terms of MICH standards, and though the rest of my app exceeds MICH norms and I’m an in-stater, the GPA’s quite the deadweight. Fortunately, I did bring it ever so slightly up with a 3.77 UW GPA in my 7th semester; hopefully that looks good to admissions considering I was deferred and it’s the last info they’ll receive from me.

Good luck to all applicants!

I know how you feel about checking Wolverine Access every day. I didn’t apply early action here but I applied rolling in December. Getting deferred sucks. I was deferred by Duke and UVA. Did you apply to LSA also?

Yes, I did.

One thing that has helped my optimism is that those who get deferred at Michigan are in better shape than those who get deferred at other similar caliber schools, but it still sucked.

This rolling admissions thing is going to kill me, haha.

I’m a 17 year old half Japanese kid who lives in western Michigan and probably goes to one of the most underfunded schools in the nation. It’s really, really sad how other schools can look at us and just laugh their heads off. Still, at least we still have our Quiz Bowl team, and Marching/Jazz/Concert Band (same cannot be said for Choir, which we had to cut last year…)

I got deferred, yeah, but I’m holding out hope! Hopefully they can look over how noncompetitive my school is, at least. :P

Hey guys  I’m a girl from New York (Long Island, yeah Tri-State). I go to a public school, and two of my older cousins already go to Mich. After not getting into anywhere besides Binghamton early, I’m hoping to be the next Wolverine in the family!

Deferred EA from Mich, but I hope that my continued interest in the school and the fact that I didn’t pull my application in favor of an Ivy like many others in my school did will reflect positively on me (besides my 4.31 weighted GPA and my 33 ACT).

Are lots of people from each of your schools applying to Michigan? At my school a fair number of kids are but not really too many. I think maybe 15 or so would be applying from my class.

Hey guys, I’m actually an international applicant. I’m an Indian national living in Thailand. I went to a private American international school. I already graduated and am in my gap year; currently working in government schools, here in Thailand, teaching kids English and science.

U of M is my first choice and I applied RD in early January. I know a little late for my first choice, but I got everything in on time. I’m very anxious about their decisions and have been checking WA twice a day. Talk about stress :P

I’ve been accepted to The University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign, but not into my alternate major and not my first choice. I’ve got my fingers crossed of U of M. Hope we all get in. Keep us all posted if anyone gets a decision.

Heyy. Intl applicant from India here  I’m a Rangers fan too but I rarely watch hockey (I prefer Knicks bball and GMen football). I go to an Indian school that sucks. lolz. U-M has gone from being my 4th choice (after UVA, UNC & Duke) to my first choice. Cant wait for my decision (is it really coming in the next few weeks???). Havent demonstrated any interest tho. I dunno how to do that… No1 else in my school applied. yay! I applied to 22 schools - all RD / RA. I got into Illinois RD but I considered that my safety so whatever… btw I applied to LSA HIST. any1 else did that or are u all business / engineering / premed majors?

Hey Guys. I am originally from New York City, but currently live in the Metro-Detroit area of Michigan. I am not too big of a hockey fan, but I would support the rangers all the way. I have been accepted to a few schools in Michigan, and one in New York. I applied Regular Decision in January hoping to hear back soon from Michigan. I hope to get in so I can major in Political Science or History. I check Wolverine Access every day hoping for a decision, just hoping for the acceptance. Best of luck to all of you.

I’ve been checking the Official Regular Admissions Class of 2017 thread daily, and this thread is always my next stop, but it seems to have gone cold.

Well I thought maybe we could get the conversation going again. :)

No obligations or nothing, but maybe a little contact with someone in the same situation, regarding U of M, would help. I know it would for me.

So, I’m gonna get the ball rolling. What are you looking forward to the most at UMich? What major did you apply to?

And for some non-college conversations

What are your interests?

What sports do you play/watch?

Anyone a star wars fan?

Who here speaks 2 languages?

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word “Thailand” (don’t worry, I’m not gonna be offended, as a person in Thailand I’ve heard all the stories :stuck_out_tongue: wanna know what the view is abroad. So go ahead be honest)

Hey Hamza, I think it’s a good idea to start conversing again

I’m looking forward to being surrounded by many people different than me, and experiencing that with my friends.

I’m currently an Undecided major.

I’m an avid reader, so if that counts for an interest…here here!

I LOVE playing badminton and volleyball, and have a bit more fun watching soccer CoughBarca RocksCough. Can’t wait for the World Cup next year :D

Nope, never watched an episode (still don’t know the difference between that and Stark Trek)…Shame Yes, I know, blasphemy. :open_mouth:

I’m bilingual! Does that redeem me? I speak English and Arabic

When I here Thailand I usually think of: really hot jungles, mosquitoes, noodles, and The Hangover 2.

Oh man, sorry for all the stereotypes. :S But hey, it can’t be worse than what people think when they here “Arab” lol.

Hey it is a good idea to converse again, barely anyone is talking anymore. Waiting everyday for a response can make you nervous

I’m looking forward to the full college experience, meeting new people, and learning and being educated.

I applied to be a Political Science major

Some of my interests are politics, reading, and religion.

I enjoy basketball, football, baseball, and volleyball. My favorite sports to watch are baseball and basketball.

Not a star wars fan! Sorry don’t mean to offend anyone

I’m bilingual. I speak English and Spanish.

When i here Thailand i think of Asia and good food.

^Hey Polisci, I’m also from NYC but moved to metro-Detroit! :open_mouth: Brooklyn specifically

Awesome! I’m from Manhattan specifically and currently live in the metro-Detroit area

Do you regret the move? I miss the subway more than anything, lol.

YES!!! Sorry was that too obvious lol. I would say the subway, food (fold able pizza slices), and the overall fast-paced city life

Yay! I was gonna ask “did your parents make the same mistake?” but thought it was probably just me who thinks that, lol.

Oh man, I’m getting all nostalgic. I moved when I was still young, so I feel like I’m gradually losing everything that made me a New Yorker…(i.e. eating pizza without folding it, eating pizza with ranch [I used to be disgusted by this practice, lol], and now I’m gonna HAVE to learn how to drive :frowning: )

DAMN YOU FORD!!!

Oh no us New Yorkers by birth enjoy blaming our parents for this mistake of moving us here. Same here, I try to not conform to the dumb Michigan practices. For example, I still say soda not pop. Honestly, even with Michigan pizza I still fold it to bring back memories of home. I understand the driving thing too, teens in NYC only have to worry about a metro-card not a license lol.

LOL at the pop thing! I remember I was in 5th grade (MI by that time) and we were planning a class party. My job was to bring the ‘pop’–lets just say, I felt embarrassed to ask what exactly this ‘pop’ was so I thought it was–the most logical thing to assume–popcorn!
