I know my family is telling me that 10 is way too many but I can’t narrow it down anymore. I may say that I am applying to 8 and then send in an application to other schools and do a phone interview without my parent’s knowledge. What they know can’t hurt them… Why should I limit my options when the difference between adding a school is an extra visit (or phone interview) and a day of essay writing + filling out all the forms.

Yay! You like choate now?

I always liked Choate, but I have a more renewed liking of it. I hate to admit but I’m starting to like HK XP it seems to have everything I want. I’ll have to watch the dvd again to renew my disliking lol.

@ Rad-in-Plaid96
Same story with my parents. They say that they don’t want me going to boarding school that’s really far away. (Like Choate, Taft, Kent) They’re fine with me going to a school within an hour drive from my house. And if you think that you have a chance at PEA you definitely have a chance everywhere else. Exeter is one the hardest boarding schools to get into, much harder than Governor’s and it’s the most selective BS on the list you named. And I saw your chances thread. I know a kid in my school with similar grades to yours and he got into Kent. So it’s not hopeless for you.

And I think that I might apply to St. Marks. It looks good on the website so I guess it’s worth an application.

@rad: How can you like hotchkiss? You already converted me. haha

You pretty much are guaranteed to be accepted into NMH again and they can’t accept you this time and not give you FA, that would just be stupid.

@gonnastop, I didn’t have a hook. I was just an all-around kind of person… I’m an athlete (gymnastics :P) but they don’t have that. I play piano, and I expressed interest in playing with their orchestra (their current player is graduating)… But I didn’t have a very strong hook, plus I needed FA.
groton does accept new sophomores, but the competition is very harsh. I saw someone post that they only accepted 2 out of 70 applying, so it’s very, very competitive. Scary, even. But that shouldn’t stop you!! Haha(:

@2010: I know, I know! lol I’m glad I converted you lol. I try. I’m mad that I can’t find the dvd so i can see that ridiculously annoying girl and her compatriots there. selfbrainwashing lol

I would be so mad if NMH did that. I’d be like wt f dudes!? I’m planning on sending my apps in wicked early this yr so as to be more efficient.

Do you guys think it’d be easier to apply as a repeat to Groton/MX/Small schools. It seems as though the admit rates for those schools in 10th is SO small.

also- my mom is trying to get me to apply for 11th nd i keep trying to tell her how RIDICULOUS that is. she thinks just b/c my sister did it it’ll be the same. I keep telling her: hard for admit+hardest year=not good.

Yeah, I’m gonna try to send in my app like in october instead of january 15th.

You should definately talk to your interviewer about repeating. Tell them him/her that you want to apply for 10th grade but you will consider an offer for 9th grade. Then it will give them options if they don’t have room for 10th graders and you still could be admitted.

My parents want me to apply this year for 11th grade because they don’t really want me to repeat but I was saying what’s the point, I probably won’t get in anyways and it will just be a waste of money.

Rad, why don’t you apply to a few (namely the safer schools…maybe even NMH and Emma Willard) for 11th grade, then the tougher schools (Groton, MX, etc) as a repeat. Cause, you could probably get accepted into NMH for 11th grade…that way you won’t be losing a year. Although, it will probably be tough starting a new school during the hardest year of high school…

:)

^I’d be applying for 10th regularly and 9th would be a repeat.
Schools like Emma Willard take apps for the 2nd semester. Do you guys think that’d be a good idea?

^namely the ones i’m def. applying to? Do you guys have the names of safer schools in NE? My fam doesn’t even want to travel to NJ!

@2010: on HK; I searched it on bSR and a bunch of Taft adds came up lol

Some “safeties” I am applying to are: SMS, Brooks, NMH.

BSR says that SMS has a 35% rate, Brooks has a 40% rate, and NMH has a 46% rate. I wouldn’t say you are guaranteed to get into these schools but you have a good chance.

I just watched my HK video. I can definately see obvious signs of brainwashing. haha

okay I’m gone for 4 days and Rad likes Hotchkiss 0.o wow things have changed
and what video are you guys talking about

i’ve renewed my hate. I went on the site and there it said admission videos- AND THERE SHE WAS! D< right there with her face in tab form… plus the overall site was very like her, etc. Hk is as Holden would say ‘phony’.

Are you talking about the girl with the curlyish hair in the black shirt? She scares me…

Hey! I’m a 2011 hopeful applicant. Applying as a freshman. My parents still don’t know that I want to apply but I’m sure they’ll be fine with it. Boarding is unheard of where I live. I will be needing almost/full FA. I’m applying as a international but I live in the U.S with a green card.

I’m counting on the admissions wanting someone who have leadership position, excellent grades and dashing recommendations.

@rad, so you’re applying for 10th grade? Wow…then I seriously think you shouldn’t repeat. Freshman AND sophomore year get around the same number of students, meaning you have the same chance of getting in as a sophomore then you do as a repeat freshman.

^there are less spaces for soph though :/

well, sadly i was convinced that small schools were a no so i prob won’t be applying for that anyway ;/

@2010:YES. that chick is like so annoying like urrggghhh

@GluePeeling: Welcome to our cult! Now I’ll just need you to fill out a few forms/waivers before you can take the member test.:D

gulp …say whaaa?

With summer and all, I think I forgot how to take a test!

@Gluepeeling, what schools are you applying to? You seem to be well-off because leadership and good recommendations are VITAL!!

Hotchkiss, deerfield, Concord, choate and ultimate reach, Exeter. I’m still looking into more. Which ones are you applying to? I made a chance thread last night and decided to look at other’s, and it really scares me.

Well, I’m going to Groton next year…
Don’t worry about the other chance threads. Just because someone has the highest grades in their class and goes to Africa every summer to volunteer doesn’t mean they’re better than you.
