<p>Hi... I applied to HKU on the 22nd of December and my TOEFL iBT arrived on the 7th Feb. Until now, I have heard nothing nothing nothing from them! Does it mean that I am on the waiting list? Or is it because I have Swedish grades and its hard for them to assess me?</p>
<p>I send them an email and all they said was "in case it says UNDER CONSIDERATION, it means that the admission commitee are unable to make a final decision. Assessment will continue until end of August."</p>
<p>The major problem is, I applied to the US och UK universities too and I've recently been admitted to one of the UC schools. Their deadline is in May and I can't wait for HKU until August and sacrifice my 5 other schools..... what if im packed, ready to fly to America and then BOOM, I get an offer from HKU??! That will drive me craaaaazy!</p>
<p>Which department did you apply to? Some departments are notoriously slower than others. If you get some good offers from the US you can use that to bargain with HKU for them to give you your offer soon. Typically science, medicine and law hear last. Business and social sciences etc. hear before them.</p>
<p>I applied to economics and finance, which is the weird thing because i should have heard sth from them by now! >8O And how do you bargain? Like I tell HKU admission which school i got admitted to and say sth like “i better get in soon or im not going there”? Doesn’t that push the admission committee and they might get irritated and reject me…? Have you done that?</p>
<p>Umm I am not sure how to bargain but I can try and ask around. I know people who have applied to different schools in HK have been able to successfully bargain and get a decision sooner. It’s odd that you haven’t heard from econ and finance. They usually do tell you pretty soon. Have you checked your status online? Which country do you come from? I live in HK and the mail took about 3-4 days to reach me compared to the postmark date when it should have reached the next day. Hopefully your letter is in the mail!</p>
<p>About bargaining, basically I think you have to politely tell them that I have other offers which have deadlines soon so I would appreciate a response but you;re right, if you don’t do it in the right way then they will get irritated. I will ask some of my classmates who have done that successfully and try and find out. Good luck!</p>

So I doubt I will receive any mail when I am not even admitted… :S I am from China mainland but I am living in Sweden… Do you know if they notify you if you end up on the waitinglist? I sent them an email and asked and they just ignored my question… -.-</p>
<p>About the baigaining, I think I will try to bargain once I hear more from other universities. Right now I only got into one and Im still waiting for 8 more. It would be really nice of you if you could ask your classmates about how they bargained! Thank you!! :)</p>

But i don’t know if I should call “Academic Support and Admissions Section” or “Faculty of Business & Economics”. Or do you think we should wait for 2 weeks or sth? :O</p>

I sent out application around 12/25 and my test scores were sent on November. I got email for Interview at the first week of March. Did the interview last week, still waiting for decision.
But anyway, I need to reply to other college before may 1st, so, if no decision from them before April 5, I will call again.</p>
<p>Wow so you called them and they offered you an interview? Where did you call?? I called them yesterday but all the lady did was checking my application status which I can do everyday on my computer instead of expensive international phone call…-.-</p>
<p>You will have to wait till April for all the offers to be made. However if you dont get the reply by then and you have to get back to the US universities then I suggest that you call us and tell us about the situation.</p>
<p>Dont worry just be patient. I went through the same process a couple of years back and I was just like you guys. We will get back to you. Dont worry :)</p>

<p>Should be right now. a person from my school rejected a MBBS interview on April 12th only b/c he can’t speak canto, and he has an offer from Cornell CAS.</p>
<p>I am in a similar situation as well. I applied for physics, had my interview last month, and still heard nothing from them. I simply don’t understand what’s taking them so long to come to a decision.</p>

My application is “under consideration” at the moment. What is yours like? Also, can you speak cantonese and have you lived in HK before?</p>

<p>Well i e-mailed them at the start of january asking whether they have recieved my supporting documents and someone from the admissions dept replied me saying that replies for interviews should commence from april onwards.
