My D applied to Northeastern on Sunday via the Common App. With all the problems with the CA this year, we think the application went through. The guidance office sent in all the required info and the school has her test scores. How long will it take to get the application acknowledgement letter from the admissions office?

Send them an e-mail. My D applied in the middle of September and still did not get confirmation from them. They wrote back that there is a glitch in Common App that doesn’t allow them to upload application.

Thanks photomother. How about anyone who has submitted an application in the last two weeks- have your received an acknowledgement letter/e-mail from Northeastern?

I applied on October 8th and still have not received a letter. I called them this morning and they said that it should sent next week.
Racquetdad, have you tried contacting them yet?

I was going to wait until next week. When you called Norteastern did they confirm that they received your info or were they non-commital over the phone?

Non-committal, definitely. He brushed me off but he did ask the date I sent it

My D keeps sending e-mails. They always answer but it looks like it is Common App problem. There is another university which she applied to at the same time and the situation is the same. She sent another email yesterday, so we shall see.

We sent ours in over a month ago. They told us today that they will get the emails out next week…they said no one has received one yet.

Thanks for the info CTcollegekid…I sent the common app on oct 9 and nothing yet…

It isn’t just Northeastern. According to news sources, there have been serious technical issues with the common app which have caused problems for both the applicants and the institutions. Some schools have moved back their early admissions deadline. Supposedly two major ‘glitches’ have now been fixed, but they are still working on some issues.

USA Today, Bloomberg and other news sites have carried stories on this.

Update: I called the admissions office today and asked for my application status. They said they have received everything and that my application was completed. They told me I shall receive an email soon. I urge ALL of you to call the admissions office to check your application. If for some reason they did not get it, then at least you can fix it before the deadline. Hope I helped! Good luck to all that applied!

I just called and spoke with a NU admissions officer. I explained my D applied last week and guidance counselor sent everything to school. I asked if he could check her status. He told me they don’t have any fall 2014 applications yet so he can’t tell me anything. He said if she got a CA confirmation e-mail ( which she did) then she should be OK. He said they will send confirmation e-mails the end of next week. This contradicts what SuperKent said above. Frustrating!!! I will call again next week and post here. Others should do the same to see if we are getting the same answers.

I would suggest you don’t keep calling them - obviously the common app is not working and if they have not gotten any applications yet they are going to be behind reviewing them and probably don’t have time to spare to talk to applicants/parents on the phone.

They will be accommodating since it is not the applicants fault if their material gets there late. Many schools will be extending deadlines again this fall because of common app problems (last fall it was Sandy - the year before there was another crazy October snow storm).

I remember the stress from two years ago when my daughter was applying - take a deep breath and try to enjoy the other fun parts of senior year!

I submitted my common application to Northeastern on Sept. 27th and received the following email from them on Oct. 9th:

“Thank you for your interest in Northeastern University. We have received your Common Application and are currently working to process it into our system for the fall 2014 Early Action application cycle. You will receive a formal acknowledgment e-mail before November 1 providing you with access to our Application Status Check website.”

<a href=“Online Application Woes Make Students Anxious and Put Colleges Behind Schedule - The New York Times”>Online Application Woes Make Students Anxious and Put Colleges Behind Schedule - The New York Times;
From this article:
Hundreds of colleges use software from the Common Application that automatically delivers a daily batch of new applications directly to their computers. That software is usually delivered in mid-September, but this years version arrived at the start of October. Many colleges are still testing it and have not yet put it to use, and most of those schools have Nov. 1 or Nov. 15 early admission deadlines.

The Common Application also had trouble meshing with software called Naviance, which high schools use to send documents like transcripts, recommendations and early-admission agreements to colleges. Until this month, colleges could not view any of that material on their computers, and some forms are still not accessible to them.

nbond, the confirmation you received sounds goofy. What if you get it just before November 1 and you find out that some documents are still missing? I sent two early action last Monday through Common Ap, Drexel and Northeastern. Drexel sent a confirmation email by Thursday that allowed you to check the status of all the documents. So I was able to check that the high school already sent the transcript and recommendations (teacher and guidance counselor) and they have the SAT. It is interesting that Northeastern is very slow and then delivers something like this. How will you know if the application is complete? I do hope I get our confirmation this coming week so we can follow up on anything missing.

So has anyone received an acknowledgement letter yet with a code to check on the status of your application? My D has not.

Yes, D received hers yesterday.

High Altitude, what date did your D apply?

She sent in the CommonApp on 10/13
