1.) When the college says that the application is due November 1 does that mean all my test scores, LOR, transcripts, resume need to be IN their office by that date?
1a.) ~ and do I send my application materials in an envelope or individually?
2.) When a college says that the essay is not required nor recommended do I still write one?
It a personal statement required? Do I write one for each institution I am applying to?
I’m the first to go to college in my intermediate family… and I am a little lost.
That due date depends on the college. Some are somewhat flexible with the materials not directly from you. But it is best to try to get everything in by the due date, and make extra sure your prices (app, esssys, payments) are.
Test scores can take several weeks to arrive, so get those sent ASAP to schools asking for official score reports.
If they says essays aren’t required or recommended, then you don’t need to do it. But if you apply via the Common App, you probably do need that essay. You can just use the same Common App essay for all schools. Sometimes colleges have additional supplemental apps as well.
Most schools use electronic processes to apply, send rec letters, etc. Your schools should send transcripts. Usually your teachers upload LOTs electronically; talk to your guidance counselor about how your school does it. There aren’t many envelopes used any more for college apps!
Your guidance counselor is aware of the deadlines and the process; the school’s end will be handled to meet the deadline.
As far as the essay, I would absolutely take the chance to let them get to know you better. That essay is the only thing separating you from the pack of kids with the exact same statistics.
