Application Disaster

I must have misread the word count on my computer, but I have a major problem. I just submitted my UMAA application and these are the word counts for each essay:

Interests: 334 (should be 250)
Local Issue: 426 (should be 500)
Diversity: 340 (should be 250)

1) Are they even going to read the interests and Diversity essays?
2) Is there any way I can unsubmit my application and send in the revised essays?
3) How much will this effect my chances for admissions?

(Stats: 4.0 gpa, 2100 SAT)

please somebody respond… is the verdict that bad?

its not a big deal as long as your essays are worth reading.

I can’t answer any of your questions, but I can offer commiseration. DS’s Interest and Diversity essays were about 290 and his third essay (his was “Overcoming”) was under the 500 limit (which is fine, 500 is not a minimum). I really don’t know how he could have shortened the Interest (Interests, in his case) and Diversity essays any more than he did and still address the prompts.

Nope, it won’t matter…one of my 250 word essay was like 345 words and I already got accepted. You’ll be fine.

At least you’re not me…I submitted then realized that I epicly f***ked up the diversity one the next day.

I wonder if admissions even reads the essays? I say to myself can they really go through 90,000 essays (30,000 Applicants x 3 Essays Each). I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Motion: What did you write about, and what did you screw up?

“How much will this effect my chances for admissions?”

If you made many mistakes like that one, it will really affect your chances. The 4.0 and 2100 should make up for that though.

Don’t worry, the word count is a rough guide so that they don’t have to read 1,000 word essays. You’ll be fine.
