Alright, I have an application due tonight. The word limit is 400-500 but they wrote "hint a pdf file under 500KB will be accepted".
My supplemental is 845 words. Yes, I know it's long, but it's really good. Like actually. So, should I be uploading that document, it is only 67 KB as a PDF or should I cut it down to the word limit they gave?
Will this diminish my chances of getting in because they placed a world limit that I didn't follow? Or since they have that hint, are they trying to say ' go for it, if you need to?"
Please let me know asap. It's due tonight!

You’re missing the point of the assignment. You’re way over the recommended level. This shows you can’t edit and have poor judgment. I’m sorry it’s due tonight but if at all possible, you need to lop some major portions. That’s my opinion.

^^ yup dude. sorry. colleges like to see that you can follow directions

I would not recommend sending an essay about twice the size that they asked for. Your essay subject should be something that fits in that scope of up to 500 words. I don’t think that hint was meant to tell you to go to town on word count.

How much it will hurt, who knows. It could be taken as rude to expect that your essay is so special that limits don’t count for you, by a weary reader. It could turn out fine if it truly is as good as you think. One admissions officer said only one out of twenty essays are “any good at all”, so I think student overestimate their quality.
