application essays

Hello everyone,
I am planning to apply to Yale this fall/winter 2011. I am researching ways to make my essays strong, and I am looking for help. I was hoping if anyone accepted to Yale would be willing to pm me any of their application essays. Your examples would help me so much-- I would greatly appreciate your help and advice.
Thank you!

It’s not likely that people are going to be willing to pm you their college essays. Instead, I recommend that you check out this link: [Essays, Admission Information, Undergraduate Admission, U.Va.](http://www.virginia.edu/undergradadmission/writingtheessay.html)

Also look in your local library for books on writing college essays. I particularly recommend the Fiske guide to Real College Essays that Work.

First time poster asking for admitted student essays, nice start!

I’m sorry, I was a fool to think people would trust me and pm me their essays. In every sincerity, I was only asking for help and I now realize that was stupid. Very sorry for this useless thread.

Sorry to be snippy Lea, one tends to get cynical as there are many who come here looking for a quick in.

livorneo gave you some excellent resources, and if you do a Search on either the Essay or College Admissions forums, you are likely to find others as many people are interested in this (Harry Bauld’s book is frequently recommended).

The main thing I tell people is that it should not be a reiteration of something that appears in the rest of your application, but rather a personal essay that gives the reader a feeling of who you are, how you think and approach life.

Um just a quick tip I heard directly from an admissions officer at bulldog days – don’t write 2 essays about the “true love” between you and your bf – that’s not what they’re looking for.

XD that was his example of “one of the worst applications I’ve read”

Put in “Harry Bauld” in Amazon’s search bar and look for his book on college applications essays. If you want to read actual essays that worked for people, find the book entitled something like “50 Harvard college application essays that worked”. That type of essay works for Yale too.
