application fee waived?

so im getting letters from some colleges that say something along the lines of: we're letting you apply for FREE and if you do, you will automatically be considered from our scholarship program...etc,etc.

are these flyer advertisement thingies true? or do they just send it out to basically anyone? :P

Yes on both counts. Because of the peverse way we count selectivity as a marker of quality, more applications are a good thing for most any college. Consequently, they’ll remove whatever barriers they can to you applying, such as waiving the app fee. Some schools also will consider your admissions app to be your financial aid app for merit consideration (you’d probably still need to file a FAFSA and possibly CSS Profile for need consideration).

So the advertisement is true, and they do send it out to basically anyone.

My daughter did all her applications online through Naviance and didn’t pay any application fees.

lol you must be rich :P
