I know that you can request for application fee waviers from your counselor, and I don't quite qualify, plus you can only get four

I was wondering if you guys know of schools that just offer them, for instance, Rice gave me one because I took so many APs :) and Williams gave me one...for actually I don't know why, but I just got it in the mail :P

so...what other schools/opportunities can you get these fee waviers? Are they all based on chance? no way to actually ask/compete for them?

Write the admissions depart and ask. It's not competitive, and as far as I can tell, if you ask, many schools will waive the fee, if you have financial need.

My son's school didn't know how to do fee waivers via CollegeBoard (no one had ever asked for them), so we were out of luck on those. Instead, I wrote the schools and asked, and most of them just waived it. On the other had, he had real financial need -- I was having problems paying for the app fees. If you're asking because you just want to apply to a lot of schools for free, it's probably tacky to ask. (You say you don't qualify for fee waivers, so I can't tell.)

thanks TrinSF, the only problem with me is that I am probably not poor enough to ask for them. it's a lot of money applying to schools, but my parents can still pay for them

I was just wondering if any schools made offers like Rice. Rice didn't offer me on because I financially need it, but because they see me as competitive acaemically. Are there any other schools that do it?

TrinSF, we have the same problem. My D's GC resigned earlier this year and she really knew her stuff. The SUB GC (who is normally a sub teacher in the district) and the other GC told her there is no such thing as a college app waiver!! IDK what to do about this. Her Eastman app alone is $100 and she probably won't even get in.
It's horrible, the former GC told us both personally before she left that she had all of D's recs written and her files were ready to go bc she knew D is applying to more prestigious schools (her school 99% goes to Comm Colleges or not at all). The other day the sub told her he needs all her teacher recs pronto so he can copy and paste off those to write her GC rec. She is beside herself as the Eastman app stuff is due Dec 1st and frankly, this guy doesn't know her from Adam. He says that her old GC's rec is missing even though the old GC showed my D where it was in her file. It's all a big mess...
