I just got an email from Rice University waiving my application fee because of my SAT subject test scores. I don't remember even signing up for student search service or listing Rice in any of the spaces. How often does this happen/does it affect actual admission at all?

There’s a list somewhere on this forum of colleges who will waive application fees. Pitt Honors waived my D’s application fee when they saw her SAT scores, so it does happen. Congratulations!

But, how does a school see the actual scores until you apply?

@NJProParent They buy the scores from Collegeboard. They don’t know your actual score, but they do know the range it’s in.

So far, we have seen a correlation between “application fee waived” schools and really high results on the NPC :(

If you are getting inundated with emails or mailings, it is possible they will offer to waive fees. It also never hurts to ask. My daughter did and ended up paying for only 2 of 7 applications last fall and winter. They even waived SlideRoom, which is a requirement for certain majors. Saved a boatload of $$$.

I got the waiver because of SAT Subject Tests also. Do you guys think this will help during admissions?
