Hello,
I am planning on reapplying this fall. I have expanded my search out of the GLADCHEMMS realm and focused on some really nice hidden gems as well. So far, I have 20 schools that I like, but will have to do more research on them. I am guesstimating that I probably would end up applying to around 12 schools after narrowing down the list. However, I am worried about the application fees. If I apply to 12 schools, where each application fee is around $75, the cost would be at least $900. Is it alright to ask for an application fee waiver from some schools if you are applying to a large amount?
One of the reasons why I am planning on applying to a wide range of schools is because I would need substantial financial aid. However, I would just like to say that I will not be applying to random schools “just because” or “for the sake of applying to more schools”–I will make sure that I am 100% invested in the school before applying.
Thank you!
It’s one thing to ask for a waiver because u are poor. It’s another to be asking for a waiver because u want that school to subdidize your application to a competitor school.
Don’t mention that you are applying to another school. Simply request one saying that it would be very beneficial and would make the application process easier. You don’t need to give a reason unless they ask for one
Since you are applying for financial aid, you can ask for a fee waiver. There are schools that will waive the fee for anyone who is applying for aid. Sometimes this information will be on their applications but if you don’t find any information on fee waivers it is perfectly okay to call the admissions office and explain your situation. Some schools will waive the fee completely or there are other schools that will reduce the application fee for you. This was our experience with both day and boarding schools.
Peddie wanted us to send tax returns when I asked for a fee waiver. We told them we don’t file tax returns.
You know what they said? “Send us your tax returns.”
Moral: it’s easier at some schools than others.
What did you say then @stargirl3 ?
We finally sent them copies of the Social Security income numbers. They waived the fee.
