How serious is it if you pass in an application late?

For Stanford---

I passed in all of my forms + recs + transcripts a while back and have been working on one form which contains the essay. I always went to the postal office at night, but realized today upon going there that the hours had changed for the holidays so they closed at 6:00!!!!! ARGH$G@#J$@G#$L#J$@

I don't know what to do... I am going to cry CRY CRY, I have to send it tomorrow morning and it'll be a day over... are they just going to discard my application? I Paid... so many good recs... I am going to die :((((((

Maybe they won't throw it away, who knows? But turning it in on time is the simplest step, and if an applicant can't even complete that, then...

I'm slow, but couldn't you just submit it online? Or is this a form that it is absolutely necessary to mail in? Different post office, maybe? I don't know.

someone on the boards here said he submitted his dartmouth app like 3-4 days late and still got in. different schools... but there is still hope!

Call me now... Send an email to the Dean of Admissions. Make it a good email and explain the situation properly. When I applied to UChic, they had posted a buffer of 8 days which my friend needed to use to send his transcripts. Stanford was on time for me... but dont give up
