Its time to apply and wanted to know if anyone knows if you can apply to different UC's under a different major or do you have to apply to the same major to all of them. Oh yeah and did they raise the application fee? I read somehwere its now $55 is that true?

yes, $55 per school. You can apply to different majors.

They raised the fee up $15, you can select different majors and/or alternate majors

But then how would you write part 1 of your personal statement that asks you to talk about your major? It would appear very indecisive to talk about your interest in two or more majors. So wouldn't it be safer to stick with one major for all colleges?

Its certainly safer because of the essay portion. Usually, people apply to majors which are similar when they pick a different major.

I am going to research this info further and talk to a rep. I was considering applying to a different major at different UC's.

Well, part 1 does not ask you necessarily to talk about your major, unless if you are a transfer than that might be different.

Why are you applying to different majors at diff schools? Are the majors related in some aspect? Are some majors available at one school but not another b/c then that would be ok.
I was going to choose diff majors but i kept changing my mind

Part 1 definitely asks you to discuss your major and why you chose it. As was previously mentioned, because transfers have to get so many pre-requisites done to get into the UCs (especially Berkeley, LA, etc), most people apply to majors that are similar. Its largely impractical to apply to vastly different majors.

Because some of the schools (or departments) don't require lower division classes to be completed, I know its possible to apply to different majors. However, take into consideration that whoever gets those applications will see what you applied for (at the very least, they'll see at the processing center). You'll have to work extra hard to prove to them that you'd be committed to the major that you apply for at their school. The essay question will also be more difficult, but depending on the majors, you'll probably be able to mention your interests or..something. I'm not quite sure, it really depends on just how different the majors really are.
