Application Period

I searched for this but couldn't find an answer.

Applying this fall to transfer, and I was wondering if there was a benefit to submitting my application as soon as the filing period opens. Do they review the applications in the order they are received, or are they all put into a large pool and then reviewed by some other ordering method?

Thanks

The timing of when a person files their application has no affect on the timing of the decision. All transfer students have to submit an update in January.

However, it is advisable to not wait until 11:59 on the last day of November, since the server could crash and then you can’t submit at all!

I’m real curious what they do look at in the period from November-January, before the update. What do you think they review during that period, if anything?

I’ve heard they ask people about the gaps in their education, so they do look at some aspects of the application, but I think the real thing happens in/around February.

I think they also mark the TAP and other edu programs so those applications can get their special attention.

Hmm, I bet there’s more going on. We’ll just have to guess over the next few months while chewing our nails to the quick, lol. :)

Some UCs are looking at TAG apps in October. With the volume of apps coming in to e.g. UCLA, I would think they’d start right away.

it doesn’t matter

TAG apps are reviewed early because they have to have a response by November.

From my understanding, UCs do the Freshmen apps first (since they don’t need to update, and decisions come out late Feb/early March) and then move on to the transfers.

I do not think they begin reviewing right away, due to the fact that we submit the update at the end of January and since people can still send in grades to be considered (I think @Cayton did), or fix any mistakes into February.

@luckie1367 is correct. I sent an updated grade to the school that I transferred to and they took it into consideration in the middle of February.

They definitely do review the application somewhat prior to the update. I received a request to verify information on my application in early January, which was prior to me updating my application. The information they asked me to verify was related to my full-time employment as well as breaks in my education.

I can’t say whether or not they review the academic/ grade portion of the application prior to the update, but the application definitely does not go untouched until January.

Welcome back candles!

I think I need to clarify. What I said in post #7 was about assessing the application for admission, which they start in February. 2016Candles is correct, they do ask for clarification, so they must take a peak/have the computer system say there was a gap.
