Application Problem

Hi all, I applied to Harvard under RD for class of 2022. I’m seriously worried because I was going through my application, and I realized that my counselor sent an extra letter of recommendation (from my robotics coach) to all my schools when I had specifically requested it be sent to only two schools, and i’m 99% sure my community-based organization counselor sent one as well. this brings me up to 5 letters of recommendation, something I absolutely did not intend to do and that I know will annoy the officer because they can get repetitive. should i be worred?? again, this was not in my hands but that probably doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things

Forgive my awful grammar btw

worried? i don’t think so, but like you said, having not just one more than they asked for, but two is probably going to negatively effect you. Probably, the ao will have less time to read through each one, so don’t worry too much, if you were/are going to get in that wouldn’t change anything.

I know kids who had two extra letters and it helped a lot. I think it depends on whether they contribute something not otherwise on the application or regular letters.

@compmom @applicant1313 alright, thank you so much for the replies. I’m thinking of having my guidance counselor email my schools to let them know it was a mistake and to ignore the 4th or 5th letters if they so wish. I just felt like this situation consisted of two more nails in an already sealed shut coffin.

I really think this will be okay and the letters may even add significantly to your application. You could call one of the schools to ask an admissions person directly if that would make you feel better.
