Does Harvard allow you to send in a recommendation letter from someone other than the 2 teachers and counselor?

You may, but before you do, consider carefully whether the rec adds important new information that isn't expressed elsewhere in the application.

i was actually at the information session at harvard yesterday, and the admissions guy said that 7 recs is a pretty good amount. i was shocked, but there ya go. he did say that 12 is gonna be too much already.

Yes, someone at Barnard also said 7 was pretty typical and more was overdoing it.

don't you think 7-12 letters of recommendation are waaay overdoing it? For that many, everything will just end up repeating what another letter said.

Yes.

SEVEN recs is normal? I was worried about sending in a 3rd rec... do you guys think having only 2-3 good recs will hurt my chances?

I think 2-4 recs is ideal. Anything above that is pushing it.
