Ari, do you not sleep?

;-)

Ari, do you not sleep?

;-)

I sleep at funny times. Mostly because I stay up all night coughing and then sleep 8 hours anyway.

I should be back to my normal hours soon...which aren't that normal anyway.

Moderate proficiency in French (I can get by when I travel), and elementary proficiency in Italian and Arabic. I'm planning on doing a critical language immersion this summer in either Jordan or Egypt to study Arabic.

I don't know how focused they are on linguistics, but I DO know that Gtown will let SSP students take language courses over the summer for free (pretty sweet deal).

Language proficiency is a HUGE sell for most IR programs.

If you don't mind my asking, did you have a lot of previous w/e before going back to school? What program are you in now?

I only had a year, but I had tons of experience in Japan before starting. I go to UCSD IR/PS because of my Asia focus.

I hate writing essays.

Bleah.

So I just submitted my third application and am about ready to collapse. Someone please tell me I'm awesome and will get in everywhere. Thanks in advance.

You're awesome and will get in somewhere.

I'm nice, but I also have to cover my butt. Sorry! ;)

Heh, thanks.

Of course now I'm having panic attacks that I misspelled SAIS or some other such stupidity or that my essays suck and no one will let me in and I'll starve to death and have to move to the Midwest or something. I think I'm strung out and functioning on far too little sleep.

I just have to finish GWU up by Feb. 1, which should be a non-Iraq-style cakewalk. But at least the bulk is done.

So should I expect to hear back by mid-March, then?

I think March was when I heard, one way or another. Or April.

Last year was so long ago. :p

I just realized that I left an item out of my inventory list on two portfolios...

Guys,

Trust me, I played the second guessing game quite a bit after I turned in the apps. Don't bother worrying, as...

You can't do anything now (except in rare cases)

It probably won't make or break you.

Instead focus on relaxing and waiting for the news, one way or another.

But waiting is torture. That is why we mope :)

You know what I did while I waited? I started researching the degree programs at the programs I had applied to, made mock schedules, and looked at potential internships for the summer after my first year. It kept me pretty busy.

Oh, and I reviewed calc and econ, which is definitely something I recommend for the top IR programs.

nah, I've still got four more apps to do, so it's worth it to notice the error(s?!) on the first two.

larationalist,

I bet if I went back and looked at my apps, I would've seen at least a few errors. And look at me, I'm a grad student.

Meet UCLAri, the grad forum's resident therapist! ;)

We need a couch emoticon.

Haha.

I still think this site has some good emoticons. Very elegant. Especially the /rolleyes one.

But I actually have a chance to fix these errors for subsequent applications! Going to try sending two more out tomorrow afternoon.
