application questions?! art supplement

Only one of the boarding schools i am applying to has an art supplement sheet and asks for an art supplement if youre interested. When i went to an interview with another boarding school, the interviewer said he suggests me recording a cd of me playing my instrument and sending it to their music department even though their website doesn't say anything about an art supplement. So could i just send a CD to all of the schools i am applying to even though they dont ask for an art supplement? I think my instrument playing is a big hook of mine so i wanted to show them that... Please answer!! Thank you!

Once tours/interviews were set up, our DS sent an email to the music teacher at each school, with a link to a youtube video of him playing. (The video was filmed for a masterclass audition he was already doing, so it was a good quality video, with a professional accompanist.) He let the music teacher know the date/time he would be on campus, and asked if he could stop by and meet him/her while he was at their school. He brought a DVD to each interview, and gave it to his interviewer, and also asked during his interviews if they would like an email with a link - which they all did.

I think that easy access to information/materials that give the admissions committee a good idea of an applicant’s strengths is always helpful. And being able to easily access a link from a computer - or forward that link to someone else - can be much more conducive to sharing info with multiple people than passing around a DVD.

If you’re not comfortable with youtube, VIMEO is another good video-sharing site, that is free for “casual” users. (They have a paid service also.)

Thank you SOOO much for the information! That was extremely helpful! :)
