I have a lot of leadership activities (which I genuinely enjoy and I have spent years doing), but my intended major is biomedical sciences. Will these two components “clash” and prevent me from creating a “theme” in my application?
I do not have many extracurriculars showing my interest in biomedical sciences (specifically in becoming a cardiologist), except for my volunteerism at a local hospital and a hospice center.
I am not an admissions officer, but IMO, it does not matter. Cardiologists have unrelated hobbies, too! Extracurriculars add depth to an application by showing how you can contribute to the college community. Not eveything you do needs to be directly related to your future major or career.
I think enjoying genuine interests is a wiser strategy than living your whole life to create a resume for college… and probably will come across as more genuine and meaningful to admissions officers as well.
