I applied to Vanderbilt ED2, but my midyear report will only be available January 28th at the earliest. This means that they won't even look at my app file until then, right? Because I'm planning on sending an additional EC document to them, and I don't want to be evaluated until they see that too. Does anyone know the answer to this question?

anyone know?

Not sure, but I hope you're right.

Well, I applied regular decision a while ago (I think I submitted everything in October). A month or so ago, my guidance counselor told me that Vanderbilt had called him asking about me, the school, etc. This led me to believe that they were reviewing my application at this time, but there's no way to be sure.

So, chances are that they may look at your application before receiving everything. Maybe once they receive your additional info, they will go back and look at your application again?

Hope this helps a little

most likely, they will have looked at your app before midyear report is sent. they couldnt possibly wait to start reviewing apps until february. they probably started in december or after New Years.

Right, and it's prob true with me because i applied ED2. but even if they do peek at the app before my midyear report is sent, they can't make an official decision until they see the midyear report, right?

Keep in mind for ED1 they do not consider the mid-year report just the quarterly progress report. Do you know for a fact the the mid-year report is required for ED2?

Yeah, it's required.

If you go to vandyadmissions.blogspot.com you can get the update from the admissions counselors on what they are doing. They are currently reading about 30 first reads plus 4 second reads a day. 16800 applications is a lot of reading.

I think I can set the record straight on this one. We absolutely want as much information as possible when we read an application--we also want to ensure that even our top applicants are maintaining their academic rigor during the final year in high school.

Westsidewerewolf is correct though. We begin reading applications as early as November, and we simply can't wait until February. Therefore, we read the application with what's here, and then recheck our work when more materials arrive.

It is not uncommon for an admissions committee chair to ask about senior year midterm grades (for Early Decision I), semester grades (EDII) or semester and second semester midterm grades for regular decision. This is also how we ensure that students keep the senioritis away.

Now the disclaimer part:

DON'T ASSUME ANYTHING. Just because we've called to ask about senior grades doesn't mean you're automatically admitted or denied. Same story if we haven't called. It simply means that we want more information about your senior year progress.

Good luck to everyone,
Brad

Brad,

So then if a particular high school does not automatically send midyear reports, should a student request one be sent to Vandy or wait for the request? Thank you for your help.....
