Hi everyone :)

I am really really desperate here :(

I've wanted to study in the united states for a long time now. But I haven't applied yet :/

I want to apply for the Fall of 2011.

I have all the necessary papers:

Grades that are certified.
SAT scores
Proof of financial support. (I dont need financial aid)
Recommendation letter.

Is it too late to apply for a college? :/ In sweden we usually apply in april, so I misunderstood what some college websites said.

The only thing I dont have is my TOEFL score, I'm gonna do the TOEFL Januari 15th. But I have a good SAT english score.

So my question to you, is it too late to apply? Without the TOEFL i can get everything ready by tomorrow. With the TOEFL I can get everything ready by Januari 29th. ( thats when the TOEFL score comes in)

Im not applying to very expensive private universities. Im looking for good state colleges, like SUNY and michigan state..etc.. Is it too late? :/

Thanks for all the answers

the deadline for application for most of these colleges has passed… sorry.

if you’re so desperate, how come you didn’t apply earlier?

Well thing is… on some of the college websites said that january was fine. And I didnt have all the papers until now such SATs and translated grades.

I want to apply as a regular, without any financial aid… Is it really too late? Im applying as a transfer student, though I only took one course in college.

What other colleges can I apply to? That have January/February deadlines? I wanna go to a state university. Engineering program But I also wanna study physics, fundamental physics. I have most of the papers ready. Everything except TOEFL scores, they are coming later this month. However my SAT scores are good.

So. Is it really too late? Can you recommend something?

Thanks for the answers tintin1992

transfer deadlines for some colleges might be a couple of weeks to a month after the deadline for regular decision applicants. i don’t know much about transfers tbh. however, you might consider applying to Texas A&M or Georgia Tech. I know the regular application deadline for these two is around Jan 15th. SO the transfer application should be due around that time. check to see if you can find other colleges. if financing isn’t a problem for you, then i guess you should be able to find some.

Ok thank you.

Right now I am considering a few colleges.

I have a question about transfer vs freshman. I graduated high school this summer here in Sweden. And started working afterwards. Though I took a college course at Gothenburg University for fun, because i was interested. The course is approximately 3 months. You can only pass or fail the course.

Does this mean that I am a transfer student? Its really weird. I did it for fun, because I was interested in one course, while I was working. And now im a transfer student right? Atleast according to most universities :)

Anyways, im looking to apply to some colleges in the coming weeks, as I said: All papers except TOEFL are here.

Grades, Essay, SAT, proof of financial support, reccomendation letters and other merits.

I’m not sure if that counts as a transfer, but some colleges have later deadlines. Northeastern University for example, January 15th.

i don’t know if you can be called a transfer student simply because you did a course for three months… i’m not sure but usually if you don’t complete a year at a certain university then you’re not a freshman anymore, but if it’s a question of 3 months, i think you’ll have to ring up your universities to ask them specifically what you are. some colleges even provide you with info on the internet based on which you can determine whether you’ll be considered as a freshman or a transfer.

Most colleges actually still accept credentials after the deadline. So if you had done the common application on time, it probably wouldn’t have been a problem to submit the forms you didn’t have yet later.

Thank you xnamelessx and tintin1992.

I just called a few colleges and they all said different things.

I could still apply to NYU polytechnic and im a freshman applicant there.

I could still apply to SUNY ( how many campuses I wanted) but there im a transfer student altough I’ve only taken one course.

So thank you for your answers, Im gonna do what xnamelessx says. Im gonna apply and send everything except the TOEFL, which im doing on january 15th and then a few days after…ill send the scores.

Yeah northeastern has a very good engineering program, though the university along with NYU are reaaally expensive Im gonna apply and we’ll see.

Northeastern University is approx 50.000 USD (tuition + room and board) anually. Which is really expensive Looking for mainly good state colleges though Im gonna apply to some privates and I might go there if they are really good.

Im thinking more like, Bachelors degree on a state school, do really well and then apply a top university…private or state-- for my masters degree/phD (if I choose to study physics id like a phD). Besides, some state colleges are really good.

ps. Even though they considered me a transfer student at SUNY, they said that the college course wouldnt really affect my admission chances. They would focus on my high school grades, SAT scores and my essay
