Applications-The Jitters

Has anyone else felt this way.

I've just realized that Exeter has finally posted their application. I've clicked on the link for the student essays but I haven't read the questions yet. I'm nervous!

Cross your fingers for me and hope they're good questions!

Anyone else looked at them yet?

EDIT: Looks like they are a lot like last year's which I've already looked at. :)

I don;t think there is one kid applying to exeter who isn't nervous.

Good point.

So does this mean that they are 'recycling' the essay questions, or what? >_>

It means that it is not topic of the essay that is important, it's how the question is answered.

I've already written a first (and third and eighth) draft... I started weeks ago. And yeah, they did repeat questions. I'm glad, because I've had ages to think about them.

ididn't think they'd repeat them, so being stupid at times, I didn't think to write out drafts. DARN IT!

I was waiting for them to post the application for weeks. I haven't sarted writing the essays yet though. I don't really know how to start.

Soso- I feel the same. I don't know where to begin. There's so much I could say, but I can't decide what to say and how to say it.

I know to be myself, but there are so many different aspects of me, that I'm left with so many doors, but I don't know how to choose which one to go through.

write about something that you're really interested about. A person I know (who got into columbia uni.) told me that he had a counselor who guided his essay writing process, and that's the advice he received. So he wrote about politics (he's interested in anarchy) and got into columbia (his first choice)

hahaahah oh saer 8 drafts oh my goodness ;]
hahah i made the mistake of starting my essays wayyy too late, i seriously define procrastination.
bahhh :)

there are just so many things that I am intersted in. i mean do i write about my love for baking, greek mythology, or diseases of the eyes. I am afraid that if I write something weird whoever reads my essay will think i am a freak and they won't accept me.

I think if you are clear about where your interest came from and what relevance it has to you now, any of those topics are fine. It will only seem weird if it appears random or silly.

I'll probably end up writing about tuba and my love of music. I could go in detail there. My dream is to be a director of a prestigious symphonic orchestra.

that's funny, I have a complete lack of topics I'm interested in that I could write about. maybe philosophy of the mind or psychology.

which essay prompts have you guys chosen. I was just wondering. Are we allowed to say? If we aren't then please disregard this post. :D

It might be good to get some practice. Tell me about your interests in the "philosophy of mind," seikuu.

I'm choosing the tell us about other intersts, but that's all I'm going to say. I think I have a good idea! :)

I'm just interested in it I guess... wrote an english essay on it for my first major english essay this year :/

(1) What, specifically, appeals to you? ((2) If you want to reduce, what are some of the logical chains you have followed [or have created] recently, on this topic, that you have found to be pleasing? There are quite a few to take!)

(3) Was your essay on the study, or was it a study [in the subject]?

~
If it is that you have little to say to (1) or (2), and that your answer to (3) points to the first case, then I would perhaps avoid the topic in an essay. I cannot say with certainty, as in your response you have given me little to use in assessing your interest, but this in itself might suggest that the idea might not be a good one. Of course, this might not be true, in which case (1) or (2) should be easily answerable.

~
I hope this exercise can serve as a template for others choosing their topics.
