<p>"Overall applications at the University of Michigan and those from minority students have increased more than 10 percent compared to the same date last year, according to preliminary figures released Thursday.</p>
<p>U-M has received a total of 18,561 applications for freshman admission next fall, an increase of 13 percent from the previous year."</p>
<p>Well, it would be strange if they didn't. Last year apps were down, as often happens when an institution revamps their application and makes it lengthier. Then the numbers generally rebound over the next few years. That's what we'd expect.</p>
