applied AUGUST 19TH and still waiting

Hi all....

maybe you would remember me...I am skulkarni- the one obessessed with michigan.

I applied to michigan on august 19th. they had all of my materials by august 23rd because i got teacher recs in my junior year so i could apply before school started as a senior.

I am instate. I go to one of the two most competitive private college prep schools in michigan. It got the highest score (in comparison to all othe rmichigan schools) when umich was still under hte point system just to give u guys a rough idea.

I had a 3.5 uw gpa, 3.7 wgpa
I had a 1340 on the SATS

I took pretty difficult courses:
freshmen year : honors biology + all other required courses like english, french, history, math, art
sophmore year: doubled up on sciences and took advanced english
junior year: tripled up on sciences, continued taking french even though not required too. Ib Math, ap. bio were the advanced ones
senior year: taking two IB classes and ap psychology. I have doubled up on sciences again.

I know I got good teacher recs because my teachers loved me, same with counselor.

I got deferred.

My Semester gpa was an uw 3.3
I had an 88. 2 in math and an 88.5 would have been an A. My teacher oculdn't bump it up but she sent a letter and my counselor verified that while in talking to the UFM rep about how close it was. If i had that 88.5 it would have been a 3.5 with everything else
I also got a C in organic chem. my first C ever. not great timing i know. But my teacher called them and told them that I am a hardworking student and how amazing i try and that like half the class had a C.

I sent them a letter explaining my love for michigan, why i wnated to go there, what student organizations i would join if i got in, and so on and so forth.

Is there any point in dreaming about going to Umich?

i don't understand why you got deferred. judging from all the advice given out on this site, you should have been a shoo-in, applying so early and in-state with decent stats. I also got deferred a couple of weeks ago, and i'm out-of-state with a worse gpa than you (3.3) and an SAT I of 1460.

anyway, do not give up hope yet! i'm sure umich will recognize how much you want to go there and how dedicated you will be once you get there. here's to hoping we both get in =)

Nirvana, shoe-ins must have over 3.7 unweighed GPAs and 1400+ on the SAT. Those with 3.5-3.7 GPAs and 1300-1400 SAT scores have a solid chance, but they aren't shoe-ins.

SK, your last semester's grades will probably hurt you a little, especially the C in Chemistry. All you can do now is wait. Michigan will send out its decisions in the coming weeks. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

I'm pretty sure the grades are what's killing you.

My best advice to you would be to ask U-M if your teachers' letter was added to the file AND whether your file was reconsidered in light of her information. I am not, unfortunately, familiar with the process of re-evaluation so I don't know how one asks about this.

It's possible, of course, that this did happen, and you were still evaluated at a level lower than what's being admitted now. In which case you have to cross your fingers and hope that in these final weeks, U-M will make admits into the pool you are in.

I applied jan 24...how do u check your decision on Wolverine Access? I only get "application is complete" and the financial summary links...but no news about decisions? How?

I have a 3.3, all AP's : ( applying next year

bringing a two year old thread back from the dead eh?

:S:S... Seriously :S.....
