Applied Calculus or Calculus I for BS in economics?

This upcoming fall I am starting my BS in applied economics, and need to take a calculus course. My options are applied calc and calc 1 with analytical geometry. I asked my advisor which one would be best and he said either one, depends on the professor. However, I’m not worried about who teaches the course, I just want to make the best choice that prepares me for a career.

Could someone tell me which one would better suit this major? My goal is market analyst of some sort once I graduate.

If you want to potentially go to graduate school in economics or have a market analyst job that requires a lot of quantitative reasoning, take calc 1 with analytic geometry (which is going to be a lot of linear algebra).

If you don’t think grad school is in your future at all and your market analyst work is likely to be less quantitative (more social science - like a market research analyst, although quant skills can be useful there too), then you can take applied calculus.

If you still have some doubt after that, it’s better to take calc 1.

Thanks a lot for responding! Grad school is up in the air, but just in case I should take calc 1 like you suggested. If I’m going to take a math might as well try for the harder course.
