Applied Early Decision to RIT in early October for Computer Engineering, Chances?

Hi Everyone,

I am currently in my final year of high school and decided on RIT as my first-choice college for majoring in Computer Engineering. I applied in early October and am anxiously awaiting a decision, but also skeptical if I should apply regular decision to other possible schools just in case so I don't miss their January deadlines.

Anyways, I thought I would share some of my specifics to get some opinions at my chance of acceptance in such a demanding major:

Overall SAT Score: 1760 (out of 2400)
Current GPA: 3.4 (I transferred end of my sophomore year from a private college preparatory school to public school for financial reasons, and my grades went from an average of B's to straight A's.. and a handful of college/AP/Honors courses now)
I am a female, which is beneficial to RIT's male to female ratio.
I have participated in a number of clubs including: Tech Team, Yearbook, Robotics Club (President), and some more.
I have received awards through a range of interests from poetry to film to computing (I won a regional and national runner-up award through the NCWIT (National Center for Women in Technology) Aspirations Award program)
By the end of my senior year I will have 12 college credits through a local community college. As well, I am taking 3 AP classes.
The only thing that stumps me a little is that I have had higher grades in the liberal arts than in the sciences. I have had mostly straight B's in math (Am taking Honors Calculus currently and have an A though), and my sciences have been anywhere from a B to an A, or in between.

There's a small scope of my portfolio, and I would appreciate any commentary to ease my anxiety. Thanks!

I would say you are An average student in comparison to most people.
I think the fact that you are a women in engineering will put you over the edge.
I’m applying regular with similist stats (male)

I think you have a good shot

Thank you SStephen2015 for your response. My concern has mostly been in regards to getting into the major than the school itself. However, my second choice was Biomedical Engineering and third Computer Science. My guess is that if I get into one of those and I do really well then if I still have interest I could switch majors.

Do you have an idea when ED candidates can earliest find out? Before January 15 if possible? However, maybe it will vary depending on the major…

I wish you the best of luck in your admission process!

I don’t know.
Some of my early action responses come in December. So I would expect December.
I think you’re a good match. I can’t guarantee you anything, but I think the female factor (sadly) is a big help for you.
Find some other schools you might like though.
Like other schools im applying to in NY are stony brook binghamton syracuse and I looked at buffalo and Ithaca.
If you have more questions I can try to help

Yeah, I have heard that it could be December, earliest even Thanksgiving, but I think it will all come down to the major and Computer Engineering can typically be a more competitive one; however, at their open house they said Manufacturing Engineering was the most competitive.

In terms of other schools, I am actually from Pennsylvania so I was looking at Drexel University and Villanova University. Drexel has a really good co-op program (I was really impressed with RIT’s and that’s one of the reasons why it was my first choice). Also, Rutgers University in New Jersey, my father’s alma mater, was another option because they have a lot of funding which has given them rise to a strong computer and engineering program.

I am also from pennsylvania
Apply some other places just in case
Drexel is good co op but I hate the city atmosphere.
I’m applying to Ohio northern dayton and shippensburg for safeties.
If you want you can look at my college list

I’m majoring in comp sci

I would have your other applications ready to send just in case. I had two friends apply ED to RIT last year. One found out he got accepted in early December, but the other one didn’t find out he got accepted until the week before most RD applications were due. So it’s good to have other applications ready in case A.) you find out a week before the RD deadline that you got rejected or B.) you don’t hear a decision until after the RD deadline. Keep in mind, the RD deadline for many schools is January 1st, not January 15th.
