Applied for Housing on 04/30 - Will I get into any of these?

-Parkside Apartments Studio Two Person
-Pardee Tower Double
-New Residential College Double
-Marks Tower Double
-Century Apartments 2bedroom4person

If not, what are the best choices available for me with such a late application?
I know Trojan Hall is terrible, so there aren't many other options are there? If I can't get into some of these, should I bother putting them as preferences or should I make the ones I can get into my high choices?

I applied even later… May 2nd. If your five choices are all impossible, do they contact you and make you choose again? Or just choose themselves?

I put down all Parkside A&H/IRC… those are probably all taken. :(

Yea…you don’t have a good shot. Unfortunatley they choose themselves, so I would put down other things. But hey, maybe putting down all Parkside stuff will actually get you a spot.

I applied on 04/30 as well;
But I put down no suite style dorms b/c I knew I wouldn’t have gotten them.
I put Marks tower, Trojan hall, and Marks tower as choices

Each Parkside dorm houses about 400 people, and most people prefer dorms so I’m thinking you guys should have a good shot at the Parkside suites despite your application dates!

but i heard trojan hall is terrible…why would you put that as an option?

And icyjennie, are you a USC student?

Yep! I’m a freshman living in Parkside A&H (but not for long :().

It is unlikely you will be placed into Parkside Apartments because it is housing traditionally for upperclassmen; sophomore, juniors and seniors all apply for housing some time at the beginning of the Spring semester, so it’s highly likely Parkside Apartments could be almost at capacity, and I’m sure they keep some spots for sophomore-senior transfers over freshmen.

You will probably either get placed into Pardee or Marks, which are both fine choices for freshman housing.

If you aren’t placed into any of your selections in the housing process, you will either be placed into a dorm you didn’t select or the Radisson.

hows the Radisson? I’ve never heard of it.

Radisson is overflow housing and it isn’t advertised or else everyone would pick it. It’s the hotel across the street from USC – I heard it is close to being phased out for housing. You can’t select it.

My current roommate lived there freshman year and she loved it, but it is very cloistered from the general population and it’s very likely your friends will mostly be other Radisson students. I also dated a guy freshman year who lived there…and yeah, the environment is pretty isolated and strange like that.

I got advised against the Radisson… not sure exactly why, but this guy said to definitely avoid it if possible.

hey, i’m a freshman at USC right now and figured I’d help you admitted students figure out housing

@ripemango I’m not really sure why you picked Parkside Apartments and Century Apartments. Those are mostly for upperclassman and you’ll definitely be missing out on a lot of the freshman experience if you choose to live in apartments. If you want to live at Parkside, pick either Parkside Arts and Humanities or Parkside International Residential College (IRC). There are a good amount of kids who aren’t international students that live in IRC so it’s not just strictly for international students. The Parkside dorms are the newest ones and the food at Parkside is better than EVK, but Parkside dorms tend to be less social and Parkside is pretty far from everything on campus. I’m living in Pardee Tower right now and I really liked it, it definitely has a good balance between social and studying. Also, I didn’t apply for housing until April 2nd or 3rd I think so you could definitely get into any of the Parkside dorms or Pardee. However, it would be pretty impossible for you to get into New/North or Birnkrant by applying so late. Also, Trojan Hall really isn’t as terrible as people make it out to be, all the dorms are pretty much the same, just the environment of people might be a little bit different.

@Pardali Parkside A&H and Parkside IRC tend to be less sought after dorms, so you should be able to get into either of them, even though you applied kind of late. Also, if all the dorms that you put down are already filled, USC will just put you into a different dorm. You will get a dorm though, because USC housing is guaranteed for the first two years. Additionally, I’ve been told that USC is no longer using the Radisson for freshman housing, so you shouldn’t have to worry about ending up there. People usually tended not to like the Radisson just because you would end up feeling kind of isolated from the rest of the freshman population, which is all on campus. Plus, some of the people I know said it was just kind of inconvenient to have to cross the street everyday and the floors are pretty antisocial.

If you have any more questions, just let me know! :)

Hey ripemango, just saw that the housing assignments have been sent out and was wondering if you got your choice!

I did! :D

I applied for housing in early March. Originally I had Parkside A & H as my third choice, but switched it to my first choice in late April. I thought that priority was established by the date you paid your housing deposit, but I didn’t get Parkside. So, maybe I lost my priority when I switched the rankings of my housing choices. Oh well . . .

How likely is it to be granted a reassignment? I got a Parkside A&H, and I want to switch to one of the less expensive options.

I would think you’d get reassigned since Parkside is very desirable. Wish I could trade you Birnkrant for Parkside.

My son’s housing page still says his room has not been assigned yet. He applied on the first day it was available. Does anyone else have no assignment yet?

I just checked USC Housing and it says the same thing NCMom^, “You are not assigned to a room for this term yet”.

Well that is good to know ripemango. They must still be loading the data.

ripemango, I just went back in and noticed where you choose the application term, it lists BSR and a room number behind it. That must be the housing assignment even though it says not assigned under rooms.
