Applied Physics and Mechanical Engineering, a Bad Idea?

Hey Guys,

I am currently an Undergraduate freshman majoring in Applied Physics. I"m really into physics and somewhat good at it. However, I am afraid that I will have limited career options after graduation. And, after looking into the other options I was interested in Mechanical Engineering. Since it has a lot of mechanics in it and I love mechanics. So I was thinking of Double Majoring In both Physics and Mechanical Engineering. Is this a bad Idea or not? Is it overkill? How closely are ME and Physics related anyways? Are they close enough so that I would be able to focus and do good on both or not?

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

Is there certain part of applied physics that you like more than others? If you had a specific field of interest than it would be easier to say, since both ME and AP are pretty broad majors.
