applied physics/ engineering physics with pre-med?

Hi
I originally signed up for physics as a major with the intention of doing pre-med, but I've been thinking that if for some reason I don't make a med school, then I need a backup plan so I have been thinking about majoring in applied physics which I have heard is a mix of physics and engineering so that would prepare me better for the future.

However, I know that engineering at Georgia tech is very difficult and I don't want to sink my GPA. Is applied physics as difficult as the engineering courses? Will it prepare me well for grad school just in case?

As far as I know physics is physics and they use to call the sciences applied biology and applied physics, but in the past 4 years just changed the name is biology and physics. so there is no engineering physics major. that would be Mechanical Engineering. Physics is a very very hard major, definitely as hard as engineering majors.
