Applied to Oberlin ED. Rejected, do I want to transfer..?

Whats Up, not to give you my life story or anything, but I applied ED to Oberlin last year and got rejected, with the "but do well and then try to transfer" letter. This was not unexpected, my aunt is a very involved alumni, but my grades in high school were terrible, I never really did anything of substance, the one strength i had was a good SAT (1430 out of 1600, V-800, M-630).
So I'll be wrapping up my freshman year pretty soon at Union College (no.36 Liberal Arts colleges, USNews) with a high GPA (should be around 3.8, possibly higher) and certanly more involvement than I had had before (wrote for newspaper, worked on radio etc.). So, i will be applying to Oberlin for spring term of my soph. year, amongs other places, and my question, if you have taken the time to read this, is how easy/hard will it be to integrate as a midyear transfer? how are my chances of getting in (my aunt will likely lend her support again)? I am not a vegetarian or hippie or activist, just a fairly eclectic kid, not really preppy like most of the kids here. Would I have a tough time finding kids who were intellectually inclined etc. ?

Thanks, I know this is long, and is really a couple questions, but i would really appreciate anybody taking the time to answer them(any one of them).

Thank alot,
Nat

anybody? nobody?

I'm sure you will find people to hang out with whereever you go, if that is what you are worried about. Do you have a chance? I don't know, but if you have $30.00 and a few hours to write and essay and file paper work why not give it a shot!

This decision is completely up to you, but there's never any harm in applying now is there?

Yes, i am aware that the decision is mine. My question had to do with my chances, and with the nature of the school.
Thanks

I got waitlisted to Oberlin RD and i was thinking of applying to transfer too (actually im thinking of applying to several Liberal Arts colleges). Oberlin was the only LA college I applied to and im sort of regretting it now - but it may be too late. Transferring is one option I have, but is it really worth it?

A transfer might cost me a ton more since Im already getting a free ride from the University of Rochester for this fall...Plus, there's the whole thing about adjusting to a new school...and Im really not sure if my professors at UR will appreciate my asking them for a recommendation to transfer out.

Ive asked alot of people and they've all told me that it all depends on whether or not I like it where I am - So it all depends on whether or not I like it at UR this fall.

I'm one of those people ;-)
And I still think that Rochester rocks, esp a full ride there.
Settle in there, it's cozy :-).

To the OP- I think your high gpa for your freshman year will help you very much, as will your activities since you can show that you're academically strong and you manage time to lend yourself to the community.
