I am a Washington state resident; High School Junior in the Running Start program. This means I will be graduating next year with a high school diploma as well as my transfer degree. I have the option to apply as either a freshman or transfer. While it is suggested that Running Start students apply as freshman; I was wondering if because of the difficultly of applying OOS to UNC- Chapel Hill, would it work to my benefit to apply as a transfer? Or can I apply twice, one as freshman, one as transfer? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Bump

I just did the same thing you did, earned my high school diploma along with a two year degree. Trust me, you definitely want to apply as a Freshman. You’ll still have all the benefits (cough bragging right cough) of having a transfer degree, and you’ll also be able to apply for first year scholarships. If you apply as a Transfer, it would probably be more difficult than applying as a Freshman :)

Hope this helps.

I would suggest to contact admission officers first. At UNC, you have to complete your diploma in 8 semesters(excluding the summer sessions). Therefore, as every 15 credits hours equal to one semester, I would suggest you apply as a Freshman if you really want to explore a four-year college life at UNC. If apply as a transfer student, you will only have four semesters left ( I assume you carry around 60 credit hours when coming to UNC). In other words, you do not have much time to do a double majors or double majors with a minor etc. Although as a transfer student, you have the privilege to ask for a one-semester extension if you are not be able to complete your undergraduate degree within the four semesters. However, you will not be allowed to do double majors in this situation.

Hope this helps and good luck with your application :)
