Hey so i was wondering if i should go for applying early. The early action is due by Nov 1ST and was wondering if i still send my senior year first semester grades by then? I mean its only half way through the semester, but i would like to increase my GPA just a bit more because i bit i am borderline for most of my schools. Does anyone know if your senior year semester grades will go with my transcript for early action? If they don't is it better for me to go for normal deadline which i believe is Jan. 1st. By then i should be able to increase my GPA and would my first semester be on my transcript?
I would ask my counselor but since this is summer they are on leave.
My GPA is currently a 4.289- and i have a 31 act
I am looking to apply to U of I, Minnesota, Wisconson Madison, the Ohio State, Purdue, and rose hulman. I believe i am borderline to reach for most of these schools- i am looking at schools of computer science not their LAS. so is early action more beneficial or increase grades a bit more. My uw gpa is about 3.53

Also i am in top 10%

For different schools they value interest differently. For example, Brandeis considers interest important while Northeastern doesnt take it into consideration. If you apply early to a school that doesn’t care about your desire to go there, it won’t have an affect on your admission. You can find this data on the college board and I think also on college data.

anyone else couldn’t find the data for most colleges in early action vs. reg decision

For early admissions, colleges don’t see sr grades, so you will be evaluated on your first three years of HS. If you feel you need your mid-year sr grades to boost your gpa, then you should apply RD.

I’m not familiar with those schools, don’t most of them have rolling admissions?

minnesota does- i called them and they said they don;t look at sr. grades since their priority ends on dec.16. They look at rare occasions if your borderline- then they will ask for your sr. yr. grades. So it seems like for minnesota i will be applying early- or normal since their rolling admissions. Anyone know why twin cities has a 50 % accept rate? Is it because there’s no essay and oos is cheap…

Im guessing your question on U of M’s 50% rating is based on a comparison with the more highly ranked but less selective U of W (about 55%). I think part of that is that Minnesota doesnt have as many in state options as wisconisn. Part of it could be carlson (u of M’s business school) I know is more selective. Even though rankings are important, they arent everything, so it comes down to basic suplly and demaind.

GL my son is also applying Comp Sci. Are you doing engineering or liberal arts ?

I am hoping for engineering- if not then LAS would be my second choice. Also how are his credentials if you dont mind me asking mitchdog

Especially with what would be considered a more selective major, it would be best to wait. Don’t apply early, you get the biggest boost from ED (which is not even a major boost), an increase in GPA as well as an upward trend will help you.

too bad minnesota’s deadline is December 16th, which would be before the end of my 1st semester
