Apply for Early Decision?

I have some questions(3 CP related, 2 non-related) and I’d like to see if anyone can answer them for me.

I’ve looked around and I see that Cal Poly has an early decision program with a deadline of October 31st.

1.)The acceptance rate for Cal Poly for early decision is 22%. Why SO LOW? Should I forget applying early decision and just go for regular?

2.) For the Cal Poly Application, in regards to Extracurriculars, what do they ask? Specifics, or just a small box for hours? Do Jr.High Volunteer hours count? How can they tell you aren’t lying?

3.) Does Cal Poly superscore the SAT? They only look at reading and math right? 1600 scale?

Thank you so much in advance. Each day is one day closer to the word “Accepted”

2.) I have taken the SAT twice and the ACT once. Today, I signed up for each test again. I was told that each test allows you to send your scores to 4 schools, right? Since I took the ACT back in June, are those 4 free reports gone?? Since I’m taking the ACT again, will I have 8 free reports or have I lost my 4 from the first test? I checked the SAT and it says I have 8 free reports so I’m good for that.

3.) I’m applying to mainly CSU schools but might try some UC. My counselor told us that there is a code(3594) that you enter on the SAT. That code will send your score report to every CSU school. Is there a code like this for UC schools? How about a code that would do this for the ACT, or would I have to enter each school individually?

Hello,
Hopefully, I can answer these questions well.

I would apply for early decision only if you know for sure you want to attend Cal Poly. Do you have any other college choices in mind? If you do, then I would go with regular decision. I am not sure why the acceptance rate is so low, but I would think that people who apply early would get a greater advantage.

As for extracurriculars, it is not that big on the application. It is only high school that matters. It is all based on the honesty policy. Cal Poly just asks for how many hours of community service you had and if you were an officer of anything. You basically just scroll down and see something like (1-3, 4-5, 6-10, 11+ hours) and then (yes, no).

I believe that Cal Poly does superscore the SAT. They only look at your reading and math score.

Yep, you can submit up to four free test scores each time whenever you sign up for the SAT test. As for the test in June, I think that is too late. You only get a certain amount of days/weeks before you lose your free score reports. I’m not exactly sure about this though.

I know for the SAT, if you send a score to one UC, all of them will get it. I’m not quite sure about the ACT though.

Good luck!

Thank you very much. I had other friends with similar questions and I’ll let them know.
