Apply for the CHP at UCI

I didn't get invited to the CHP my senior year in high school but I want to apply for the program. I'm aware that I could start to apply after my first fall quarter. But then, for some crazy, impossible reasons, if I got in during the spring quarter, would I be behind in Humcore since by then, other CHP student would have had their first quarter of Humcore already. That said, would it be wiser to apply for the CHP as a sophomore (which mean I could avoid Humcore and take the regular writing 39 series instead)? This sounds more appealing to me since I'm a bio major and I don't think I'm good enough for something like the intensive Humcore.

Oh by the way, since both bio majors and the CHP require a research/project prior to graduation, can bio major students who are in CHP combine them into one research/project?

I do not feel really confident. Have you happened to know anyone who applied and got in? Or is it almost impossible?

I know I typed too much but thank you so much for reading and replying.

What? I didn’t know about this. Can you tell me where you got this info (about the bio majors requiring a research project)?

Sorry, I don’t know much about the honors program. It never seemed to be enough of a benefit for me to care about. Note that if you don’t do humcore you’re going to have to take more classes anyway to fulfill the general education requirements (it fulfills more classes than just the writing 39 series).

I might have remembered it wrong but one of my high school teachers who graduated from UCI with a BS in ecology told me so. Besides, if you check the suggested bio schedules for all bio majors in the catalogue, you’ll see “research” in the senior year part, in all of them. But some bio major schedules show a “/” so it might be “either or.”
