<p>So I'm an upcoming senior in HS and I am absolutely conflicted on which college to apply to.
I have a passion for physics and have always considered majoring in engineering but now I'm not too sure.
I've never had any engineering experience and lately I've been thinking of majoring in physics instead, but... ugh... I'm not sure. Also, the low acceptance rate of UCLA's school of engineering freaks me out; it seems I would have a higher chance at the college of L&S.</p>
<p>Engineering for sure, it isn’t such a good idea to rely on being able to switch after entering. Certain engineering majors (material science, civil, EE, just check out the stats) have acceptance rates over 30%. Best part: you can switch to physics without hassle if you don’t like it that much. You will have a huge prerequisite overlap either ways, so you’ll be fine. Better safe than sorry, no matter how confident anyone can be! Good luck!</p>
<p>@mikemac - so even though you list a second choice major they don’t consider that at all? I had one accepted to engineering a couple years ago but went elsewhere and have another applying this fall. Didn’t remember this part…So its apply to one and done?</p>
“not</a> normally” potentially leaves some wiggle room, I suppose. And it isn’t really clear if the alternate major has to be another one in engineering or could be in L&S. I suggest contacting admissions to see what they’re actually doing these days.</p>
<p>Keep in mind most high school students applying to college will not have real engineering experience either. The average will probably just have taken AP Physics B/C +/- CS in high school and decided engineering is something they would like to do. You will probably be fine :)</p>
