I am currently a Journalism major at a community college in San Diego, CA. I havea 3.7 GPA and will have all major coursework completed by the time of Fall 2012 transfer. I have looked online at Cal Poly and have seen the Fall 2011 transfer demographic but was wondering if anyone had anything else to add such as chances of getting in. I have been a leader in extra-circ activities and have done community service the past year doing various opportunities.

Contact Cal Poly and ask what the exact academic requirements are to transfer for your major. Your GPA will qualify you. However, Cal Poly seems very strict with transfers and you must complete every single course they require in order to be seriously considered. I heard of people with close to 4.0 GPA’s get rejected because they were missing 1 or 2 prerequisites and folks with a 3.4 GPA get in because they satisfied all the prerequisites. Call and confirm what you need to take. EC and community service are important, but may not sway the decision if your prerequisites are not satisfied.

I will definatly contact them to be sure. Do you know if the people that got regected just didn’t complete their prereq’s at all and plan on taking them there or if they were in progress and planned? I am in progress of two prereq’s and I have one planned for spring so it would be done by fall 2012 if I got in.

Not sure. The best thing to do is call the specific department and ask them for what they want exactly. The Cal Poly web site will give you all the contact info that you need. Bottom line communicate with the school. Best of luck!!

Will do, thanks for your advice! Thank you!
