Transferring next fall and will have about a 3.1 from CC. After reading through these boards, is it even possible to get into either one of these schools? They say the minimum GPA for transfer to a CSU is 2.0 but I'm really beginning to wonder if anyone really gets into these schools with a 2.0. Also, do they pull grades from this Fall's semester prior to acceptance? If so, I may have an opportunity to pull this up a little.

Please let me know if you have a similar situation or know anyone that has transferred in this range.

Also, would being Hispanic be an advantage? Thanks!

dude/dudette it all depends on your major...when it comes to GPA also how many classes you have completed. Yes they do check fall semesters grades. I think you should do well in school rather than rely on your race to get you into college.

Not relying on race at all....just wondering how they look at it. Major is journalism and all General Ed and requirements for the major will be done.

I think the avg. for cal poly is a 3.4 for transfers. So, no, I doubt they take anyone with a 2.0. 2.0 is the minimum to be considered for a spot. Not sure about sdsu. For cal poly, you have a shot, but the odds are against you since your gpa is a bit lower than avg.

edit: Are you transferring from cuesta college? I think they give that CC priority since it's in SLO.

Giants--I think you're wrong. Show the stats. You can get into Berkeley and UCLA with a 3.4 (obviously not a SOLID chance, but still decent). I think it's a common GPA for applicants.

The avg. selected gpa was a 3.35 overall for transfers to cal poly in 2005. The avg. gpa for the college of liberal arts(where journalism is) was 3.42. The stats can be confirmed with this link:

No more affirmative action in California meaning that the admissions office probably wont even notice your race at all.Your race means nothing to admissions. many majors at SDSU are impacted so it is really competitive.

So does that mean than anyone with a 3.0 can't get into a 4 year state school? That seems a little unfair. I have to work twice as hard as everyone else (ADD) and doesn't seem like it's going to pay off. SO discouraged!

That 3.3 is the AVERAGE gpa, meaning that in order for that average to come out they have to accept some lower gpas, so you still have a shot. If you're worried about acceptance, look into the TAP programs where you will recieve guaranteed admissions. Good luck.
