Applying as a Transfer student? Or First year?

Hi all!

Im currently in the process of trying to transfer from Pratt institute to Cooper Union (The School of Art). I'm currently in my first semester of freshman year. I am aware that cooper union is really selective in their admissions to transfer students- which is already lower than the actual acceptance rate. And so I was advised to apply for First Year, rather than as a Transfer student. Would that be alright? and would it even work? Because it just seems weird to apply as a first year student, when I am technically already a undergrad student...

So my question is, based on the circumstances, would it be perfectly acceptable to apply as a first year student and if I am accepted, I can ask to have some credits accepted?-based on the classes I took in my first semester at Pratt?

Thank you so much guys for taking the time to answer!

Not sure who ‘advised’ you, but have you looked at the website?

Usually, if you’ve taken any credits post high school, you’re not considered a freshman, first year applicant, you’re considered a transfer student.

^Unfortunately, usually doesn’t matter to the individual that is applying, only how the transfer policy applies to their personal situation. That’s why people need to read the college websites and then ask for clarification from the school if there are still questions.
