Can I attend Cooper Union Art school as a transfer from a community college

Hi everyone, I wanted to know if you can apply to cooper union as a transfer from a community college.

I’m 18 and I graduated from an Art high-school, but however I did not apply to art schools because I was not sure if that would’ve have been the realistic path. I’m terrible and not very interested in STEM related areas especially math and science. That sounds kind of bad because that’s where the money lies for the “hard” majors. I was an IB Art and my art teacher suggested that I go to art school but as I said I wasn’t sure of it. My math sections of my high-school transcript is not so good looking because of all the times that I failed my math classes and tests. Im not a bad student, Im great at everything else but not math. Which is what brought down my average and not led me to be accepted to any CUNY 4 year schools so I had to opt for CC.

Now I am reconsidering that I should probably go to Art school since its just my strongest current and I don’t really think what else I’d end up studying anyway. Anyway, lately I’ve been doing a ton of research on CC that I’ll be going to and now I’m in a situation where I feel stuck. All I need to do is hand in one last document and I’ll be pretty much enrolled to cc.

Okay now back to my point…I did check cooper’s website and they do accept transfer students if they have between 18-60 credits of studio Art. Hence the major I’ll pursuing if it comes to staying for 2 years is a Liberal Arts degree from a CC. Since the majority of CUNY CC schools are the same, the school that I’ll be attending has an Art course from Art10-Art97 but I’m not sure if that complete part is associated with the liberal arts degree.

I have a portfolio but it mostly consists of outdated work. what I have recently is artwork from highschool.I have my sketch book and some paintings I’ve done also. And I’ll be working hard to organize a good portfolio for the time being.

Once I obtain these credentials should I apply to cooper or wait until I finish my whole AA degree in liberal arts? The normal acceptance rate is like 8% and I assume it’d be lower for transfer students.

Anyone else out there applied or got accepted to cooper with or without transferring? please give me some advice I’d really appreciate it.
