Applying EA instate, Chances?

Hey all, I am an Indian male residing in Georgia, and I am applying for EA in Georgia Tech. I didn’t get any responses last thread, so I’m making a new one, with a few more details.

UW GPA: 3.83
W GPA: 4.17
(Both GPA’s are up until junior year, will probably increase when I graduate)
SAT: 1500 composite (780 math/720 reading) (studying a lot to raise this, so not definite)
AP’s taken: Human Geography, Computer Science A, World History, Physics I, Calculus AB/BC, and Chemistry. Planning to take Physics C Mechanics, Computer Science Principals, Statistics, Macroeconomics, and Psychology next year

ECs:
Band - Competitive Marching band 4 yrs in a row, section leader 2 yrs in a row, good chance at making all district band next year
Boy Scouts - Eagle Scout (highest rank), probably racked up around 200 hours community service
VHPA - Hindu cultural (nonprofit) program, was enrolled for quite a few years and TA’d for one year, probably another 50-ish service hours there
Academic bowl (really small, haven’t done much in here)
I’ll probably join TSA next year to compete in the music production category, we might do well there.
I am a part of NHS, SNHS, and Mu Alpha Theta.

Work experience: Tutor at a nearby tutoring center, and occasional sound engineer at a local restaurant

Others: I’m taking a intro gov course at a nearby university right now over the summer.

Major: Physics

Thanks, all.

The physics department is outstanding at GT. I don’t know anything about admissions, but just make a sensible list and include safety schools by matching your test scores and GPA to the average at the schools you apply to. If you are way above the average that is a safety school. Few to no one reading this blog works for GT Admissions so you cannot get any information about your chances. And it depends on who applies next year, as well, which is unknown even by GT Admissions right now. Your essays matter some, be sure to edit them carefully. Applying EA will help anyone have a better chance. The deadline is Oct 15.

Thank you @Coloradomama for the input. I know that you know nothing about admissions, but generally, do you think GT is a reach for me? Also, do you think UGA would qualify as a safety for me?

Compare your scores to those two schools by looking up their SAT scores. It is anxious for students today but try to calm down by comparing your scores and hoping for the best. There is always community college, but really It seems you will get in somewhere. Admissions takes into account race and gender so thats why its hard to predict. Asian Indian race/heritage may be one that is over represented at some schools. I do not agree with that way of doing admissions but it is legal in the US to discriminate based on race, for college admissions. I would prefer a meritocracy but there is no meritocracy in college admissions. Even Caltech is now bending their high test score and math preparation requirements a little to diversify their student body. I don’t say these things to make you more worried, as it seems you are already a bit too worried. Ask you counselor at high school to be sure you have some safety schools in your mix. You can see the downward trend of test scores at MIT too. Georgia Tech? Lots of perfect scoring students get rejected, so its hard to predict. Good luck.

Any school with a sub-25% acceptance rate is a “maybe” for anyone. You’re a good candidate for Tech but no one is a “sure thing” for them. Their in-state acceptance rate this year was around 49% (I like to focus on that number instead of the overall rate, which is much lower).

With your stats, you can consider UGA a safety, yes. I’d recommend applying to both EA. Good luck!!
