Applying early to Tufts vs. Boston College

I’m looking to major in international relations with a minor in Spanish, I’d also really value a strong study abroad program.

I know I have slim chances of admission at both, but as of right now they are my top 2 dream schools- I have visited both and could see myself at either. I definitely want to utilize early action options, because I think that is best for me as I won’t be retaking any tests senior year and my grades have been consistent all three years thus far- so I don’t think an additional semester will make a difference.

I want to maximize my chances, so I’m stuck between:

A) Applying ED to Tufts, then if I am deferred or rejected, apply to BC
Or
B) Apply EA to Boston College, then if I am deferred or rejected, apply ED2 to Tufts?

Which option would you recommend?

This is a brief preview of my stats, just for some insight-

ACT- 31
English- 35
Reading- 34
Math- 29
Science- 25
Combined English/Writing- 33 (10 essay)

4.0 GPA UW (97.5 on 100 point scale) (School doesn’t weight)
Top 5% at a private catholic high school

APUSH, AP Lang, Calc, Physics, Anatomy & Physiology- Junior Year
AP Gov, AP Lit, AP Environmental, International Relations/Current Events, and Business Law- Senior Year
*most rigorous course load offered at my school

President NHS (2 years)
President Model UN (3 years)
Varsity soccer 4 years (captain MVP)
Varsity softball 4 years (captain 2 yrs. MVP)
1 month service trip to Haiti- built houses, ran day-camp, etc.
2 Summer internships with local law firm
1 week language immersion in Mexico

& Yes I am aware that there is a very good chance I could be rejected from both because they are so competitive…

I’d appreciate anyones opinions or advice! Thank you so much!!

My son’s school is very close to BC. The EA option is used for very high stat students. I remember reading this on the website as well. Athletes even apply in regular decision.

This is what I would do…
-If finances are a consideration and you want an opportunity to compare offers then don’t apply ED and apply EA to BC.
-If Tufts is not your 100% top choice then don’t apply ED apply EA to BC
-If Tufts is your absolute top choice and money is not an issue then apply ED to Tufts.

@happy1 seems like that’s the gist of advice everyone is telling me… thank you!
