Applying ED / financial aid confusion

I’ve read a little about this but am still a little confused.

Cal Poly is my first choice, so if I decide to apply ED and get accepted, obviously I’d go. But the thing that I’m confused about is the financial aid thing. If I apply early admission, does that mean I can’t get financial aid at all? I would have to pay for everything? For example, say I do get accepted for ED, but then UCR offers me a large amount of financial aid. Since I applied ED, would I have to stick with Cal Poly? Or would I be able to go back and decide to go to UCR instead?

I want to apply ED to show them that I really do want to get in and that’s my top school, and if I don’t get accepted for a specific major during ED, I could change majors to something else for regular admission.

But with the financial aid rules, I don’t think it’s really a choice for me…

Just need some clarification with this.

My family really cannot afford to pay 25 grand a year for this. (I mean, it’d be better to get some type of aid to help out.)

Ohhibye: You should only apply ED to Cal Poly SLO if it is your first choice and you will accept any Financial aid package they offer. If your family cannot afford the $25K/year and you do not know how much you will receive from SLO, then you should not apply ED. You can only be released to due compelling medical and financial reasons. Have you run the NPC for SLO and figured out your EFC?? How much can your family afford or willing to pay?

If you are deferred from ED to RD, you have until the end of January (I believe) to change your major.

If you are accepted ED, you have until January 15th to accept and you will not hear from UCR until end of January/February. Also, if you accept ED, then morally you should withdraw all other applications.
