Applying for a Dance Major or History

My daughter is going to be applying to Columbia next year. She is interested in a major in History to further continue to Law. She has been dancing for 10 years and wants to continue dancing in college.

My question:

Does applying as a dance major have extra requirements or harder than applying as other majors that are not performing arts?

There are no “extra requirements” for admissions as a Columbia dance major. That is one of the majors housed at Barnard (where my D attended). There are no auditions required for the dance program.

There are 6 levels offered of ballet and modern technique classes per semester and dancers “shop” themselves (with instructor’s approval) into the appropriate class level during the first two weeks of classes (each term). There are also repertory classes (in ballet and modern) offered as well as technique classes is other dance forms and of course “academic” dance classes. There are a number of performance opportunities available as well.

Columbia (as a CC student or as a Barnard student) is an excellent place for those desiring to continue to receive high-level dance instruction as well as challenging academics. Not that easy to find!!
