Applying for Africana Studies - RD, Bad AP Chem grade (1st semester)

Hi all,
Wellesley is my number one school, but my parents said they’d refuse to sign the ED slip, so I’m applying RD. I have all As and A+s during my senior year (4.5 GPA this year), except for AP Chemistry (the bane of my existence as of now). I have a C first quarter , and a D second quarter in that class - I’m taking 3 APs total this year. My major is not at all related to chem, but Wellesley is pretty darn selective, and I know this will be an issue. My SAT score was a 2080 and my GPA was a 3.6. I’m hoping that my extracurriculars will balance it out, as I was an Intel Semifinalist for work in Africana Studies, and do participate in clubs related to this, but I was wondering how Wellesley might look at a grade like this for senior year? My teacher said that the courseload becomes a lot better in the second semester and at the least, I’ll round out to a C overall. Do you guys have any tips for me?
Thank you all for reading

Well, your application is submitted so there’s not much to do. Trust that the Wellesley Admissions team will evaluate your application holistically and that they do a great job of selecting students who will go on to be successful in the Wellesley environment. If you aren’t selected, it wasn’t a good fit for you and you’ll end up being happier and more successful where you eventually land. Your career is much more dependent on what you do, the passions you ignite, and the people you meet in college than where you went to college. Good luck!

That is true, good points. I guess it’s just because I was so taken with the messages the alumni provided me about Wellesley and the campus itself, oh well. Thank you though!

Don’t panic. A bad grade in a single class will not derail an otherwise strong application.
